You’re ready to get your home on the market and are thinking ahead into the process. A big question comes up: What do I do with my pet during showings?
Making a good first impression is absolutely key to selling your home quickly and for top dollar. Not everyone grew up with a family pet, in fact some people may not even like them. The name of the game here is minimizing the presence of the pet. If you have a dog, you may consider having the dog stay with a neighbor or family member during showings, or even putting them up at a boarding house. If that isn’t feasible, read on for other ideas.
At minimum, put your pet in the backyard or a carrier/cage. It’s a good idea to leave a note on the door for prospective buyers so they know that there’s a pet in the home.
Another consideration is to wait until the buyers and agent arrive and step out for a few minutes for a walk with Fido. Buyers and agents alike will appreciate the gesture.
Keep litter boxes extremely clean, and pick up any toys, bowls, and other items.
Oh, and vacuum up that pet hair!
